During JJO’s 17th Annual Ton of Toys Toy Drive, an interest was expressed for Jimmy’s assistance to help the East Texas Food Bank. Jimmy was literally blown away to find out that 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults, mostly seniors, and veterans, are “food insecure” and numbers 252,900 in 26 counties. To this request, it was absolutely impossible for Jimmy to say no. So Jimmy rekindled his Food Drive he had done for 5 years in Houston and a partnership between JJO Radio, JJO Charities, and The East Texas Food Bank began in 2016. JJO’s Fall Food Drive will be held in Walmart’s parking lot on 6801 S. Broadway in Tyler, in the Spring and Fall always starting on a Friday at 10A when he will again be living in a box (POD), unshaven and unbathed, until at least 10,000 pounds (5 Tons) of non-perishable food items are raised for needy hungry East Texans. Since 1988, the East Texas Food Bank, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has provided food to over 200 partner agencies, in an effort to feed children, the working poor and seniors throughout 26 counties in East Texas. In FY2015, 18.2 million meals were distributed to hungry East Texans. 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults in East Texas are food insecure.
